Scammers are using fake social media accounts in an attempt to solicit "donations" for flood relief.

An Instagram account impersonating local Indigenous business organisation Leedal Foundation, using the handle @leedal_foundation_limited is contacting people and using an "Amazon ecard" scheme to steal from them.

The real Leedal Foundation is working with a number of Indigenous organisations to provide flood relief and help rebuild flood-ravaged communities in the Fitzroy Valley.

Leedal's donation drive has raised almost $600,000 for community relief and recovery, including a $500,000 donation from Woodside Energy.

Last week a scammer set up a Twitter account with the exact same user name as ABC Kimberley correspondent Dylan Storer, which should have been impossible under Twitter's rules, to solicit donations.

Mr Storer described the scam as "infuriating" and urged members of the public to only use "reliable sources and legitimate websites" to donate to the cause.
