Aboriginal leaders from across Port and South Hedland, in Western Australia's Pilbara region, have been recognised at the 2026 Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders NAIDOC Awards.
The awards were presented during Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation's NAIDOC closing event.
They were hosted by Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation and delivered in partnership with the Pilbara Development Commission.
Kevin Gallagher received the Karlukarlu Community Award for his contribution to the Hedland community.
Rick Dadleh was named Male Elder of the Year.
Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation said the award recipients had made important contributions across culture, community, the arts, sport, education and service.
"Through your dedication to culture, community, the arts, sport, education and service, you are helping to create a stronger future for Hedland and the next generation," the organisation said.
It said the event brought the community together to recognise the work of local Aboriginal leaders.
"Your contributions do not go unnoticed, and we are proud to celebrate you," it said.
