Keidean Coleman will get a fresh start to his AFL career with Essendon in 2027 after securing a move from Brisbane at the dying stages of the trade period on Tuesday night.

Coleman, who's struggled to string together extended periods in the senior side at the Lions and missed consecutive flags with the club in recent seasons, lands at the Bombers in exchange for picks 21 and 27 in next month's national draft.

The Bombers also received Brisbane's pick 25.

Coleman, 26, is understood to have requested a trade to the Melbourne-based club and met with Bombers officials, but a move hung in limbo until minutes before the trade window closed at 7:30pm eastern daylight savings time on Tuesday evening.

The Lions were reportedly wanting Essendon's earlier pick 17 in exchange for the running back flanker, all while having pick 27 and a future third round draft selection on the table.

A deal got done however, with Coleman set to join his second AFL club.

Coleman's best was amongst the competitions most exciting and promising in earlier seasons before setback on setback saw him miss the Lion's premiership three-peat.

He finished second in the Norm Smith Medal count when Collingwood claimed a three-point win over the Lions in the 2023 grand final.

After signing an extension committing him to the Lions until the end of 2027, Coleman missed almost the entirety of Brisbane's 2024 premiership campaign after injuring his ACL in round one of the 2024 season.

He managed just a single AFL appearance in 2025 as he battled through more injuries and again this year after looking to have reestablished his spot in the senior side across the first half of the season.

Coleman played a final AFL game for the Lions in a 76-point loss to Carlton in round 21.
