Ash Gardner has completed her first victory as a professional captain after the Trent Rockets won their first match of the season in England's The Hundred competition.
After tournament opening losses against the Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers, Gardner contributed with both bat and ball to see the Rockets comfortably defeat the London Spirit by 33 runs at Lord's.
After being sent in to bat by Spirit captain Charlie Dean, the Rockets posted a competitive 6/149 from their 100 balls, highlighted by Nat Sciver-Brunt's 51 (29).
Arriving at the crease at 2/63, Gardner partnered with the England all-rounder in a 60-run third wicket stand, the second highest partnership of the innings.
Playing the support act to Sciver-Brunt, Gardner contributed a handy 25 (22), her innings including two boundaries and a six.
The pair guided the Rockets to 2/123 with 20 balls remaining before Gardner was caught on the leg side fence after mishitting a Sarah Glenn drag down.
Sciver-Brunt finished unbeaten, with her, Gardner and opener Bryony Smith's (42 from 23) contributions seeing the Rockets set the Spirit 150 for victory.
In response, a steady flow of wickets saw the Spirit fall well short, with Queensland allrounder Charlie Knott top scoring in the middle order with 33 (25).
Gardner picked up opener Georgia Redmayne (9 from 15) early in the innings caught at long on, before returning to the crease later to dismiss Dean (8 from 6) caught at cover.
The Muruwari allrounder finished with figures of 2/14 from her 15 deliveries.
Left arm orthodox spinner Kirstie Gordon (4/15) was the Rockets' best with the ball.
The win leaves the Rockets sixth on The Hundred ladder.
Gardner and the Rockets will next face the Southern Brave at Nottingham's Trent Bridge on Saturday.
