The Trent Rockets remain winless in The Hundred, England's 100 ball competition, despite a career-best performance with bat from star allrounder Ash Gardner.

Gardner posted her maiden half century in the format in the Rockets' 8 wicket loss to the Northern Superchargers on Sunday.

Captaining the side, the 28-year-old blasted 61 from just 32 balls in the middle order.

Her innings at Nottingham's Trent Bridge, where she dismantled England with the ball in the Ashes Test two years ago, included 10 glorious boundaries.

Gardner came to the crease with the Rockets in deep trouble at 3-5 after a top order capitulation.

Partnering with Nat Sciver-Brunt (15 from 15) the Muruwari woman steadied the Rockets' ship before the England international was dismissed approaching the halfway mark of the innings.

With the score at 4/47 Gardner found another ally in fellow Australian allrounder Heather Graham (15 from 23), the pair putting on 47 for the fifth wicket before Gardner was caught on the fence from the bowling of Grace Ballinger (1/25).

The Rockets went on to post 8/128 from their 100 balls, a target easily chased down by the Superchargers.

They were led by opener Davina Perrin, who anchored the chase with an unbeaten 72 (40), with support coming from Australian Phoebe Litchfield 22 (10) from and Annabel Sutherland 18* (11).

Gardner finished with 0/21 from her 15 balls.

The Rockets lost their opening fixture of the tournament two days earlier, going down by 11 runs to the Birmingham Phoenix.

In reply to Birmingham's 5/148 Gardner missed out with the bat, scoring just 2 (4) in the Rockets' reply of 6/137.

She finished with 1/32 from her 20 balls in the match's first innings.

Gardner and the Trent Rockets will return to the field on Friday against the London Spirt at Lord's.
