Fremantle favourite Michael Walters has been subbed out of his side's afternoon clash against the Western Bulldogs with a hamstring injury.

Walters was replaced by Matthew Johnson early in the second term at Marvel Stadium.

'Sonny' had returned to form with three majors in the Dockers big win over Melbourne in Alice Springs before the bye a fortnight ago.

Following a tight opening term, the Dogs put on five goals to Fremantle's one to take a 28 point lead into the main break.

Amid a third quarter fightback from the visitors, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan slotted two in the opening half of the quarter towards building a healthy lead before Freo responded with four of their own to keep the match alive.

A response from Rory Lobb from short range made it a 15.11 (101) - 9.5 (59) lead at three quarter time against his former side.
