A man has been charged over the death of a 51-year-old Indigenous woman in Mparntwe/Alice Springs.
Detectives from the Major Crime Squad and Southern Investigations Unit charged the man, 49, with murder on Tuesday evening.
He was remanded in custody and is due to face Alice Springs Local Court on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old woman's body was found in an Alice Springs riverbed on Monday morning, after reports at 12:20 am from the 49-year-old man suggested she was unresponsive near the Todd River.
Whilst emergency services attended the scene, the woman was declared deceased a short time later.
Police allege the woman was the partner of the man, noting she is the NT's first alleged victim of domestic violence homicide in 2025.
NT News reported the woman was understood to be from the Haasts Bluff community, whilst the man is from Papunya.
