In the wake of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, which caused significant damage in Queensland and northern New South Wales, NAB is offering Disaster Relief Grants and other banking support to help First Nations people.
Grants of $1000 are available for eligible customers living in government declared impacted areas who have been directly impacted by destructive weather.
They will offer immediate financial assistance to help with essential needs during the aftermath of the storm, with NAB Group Executive Sharon Cook saying the contribution is part of both NAB and the NAB Foundation's ongoing commitment to assist communities in times of need.
"In times of crisis, it's crucial that we rally together with our communities," Ms Cook said.
"This donation is just one way we're helping those who need it most right now. Our $1,000 disaster relief grants are also now available for any customers impacted by the cyclone.
"For someone who has suffered major damage to their home, business or farm, this can be a valuable lifeline to help get them back on their feet."
To be eligible, customers must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Primary place of residence or business is in a disaster-impacted area, declared by the Australian Government.
Primary place of residence or business has experienced damage where major or minor repairs are required to the interior or exterior of the property.
Unable to reside in the property due to damage, total loss or any potential health risk.
Business or agriculture customer who has suffered damage to property, equipment, fencing or loss of stock and livestock.
Must be a current and active NAB customer with regular account activity. One grant can be paid per household or business.
It comes after the NAB Foundation announced a pledge of $200,000 to The Salvation Army to provide meals and psychological first aid at evacuation centre for first responders as well as for people taking shelter before Alfred arrived late last week.
Disaster Relief Grants for impacted customers will remain open until 4 April 2025.
All enquiries will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the NAB Assist team to determine eligibility.
Customers affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred can apply for a Disaster Relief Grant online.
NAB staff are trained and ready to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers with their banking questions and customers are encouraged to call for help for a wide range of banking needs.
