The relief efforts of a Fitzroy Valley Indigenous business organisation have received a significant boost, with a half-million dollar donation from Woodside Energy.
Leedal Foundation is working with other Indigenous organisations in the Valley to support relief and recovery efforts after the worst flooding in Western Australia's history ravaged the Kimberley Region.
Woodside will contribute a total of $750,000 to relief efforts, including $250,000 to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund, the state's official emergency fund.
The company is also facilitating employee donations to both funds through payroll deductions.
Chief executive Meg O'Neill said the company's personnel has been "shocked and distressed" by the devastation the floods have brought to communities in our WA's north.
"In times of need like this, it's important that we support groups like Leedal Foundation, who know what local people need to get back on their feet, both in the immediate term and in the coming months and years," she said.
"Woodside has always been committed to supporting and investing in the communities where we live and work, and we believe it is best to make those contributions through collaboration and partnerships with local organisations."
Ms O'Neill said the company was pleased to be able to support the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund.
"Our thoughts are with the families who have been impacted and we extend our thanks to the emergency services and other responders who are working to assist with the relief efforts under such difficult conditions."
