South Australian Police are investigating after a man died following a fight in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands on Sunday.

In a statement, police say they responded to "reports of a large group of people fighting" at Pukatja/Ernabella, 30 km from the Northern Territory border.

Following the altercation, a 59-year-old man believed to be involved sought medical attention at the town clinic, police said.

"While receiving treatment, he subsequently died," the statement said.

"Police are investigating if the man's death was as a result of a medical episode."

Police say they are treating the event as a "violent disturbance," and have remained on the scene to talk to those involved and community members.

Members of the public with information are asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000.
