Reigning Dally M Medallist Nicho Hynes is reportedly set to be axed from NSW's State of Origin setup when Blues' coach Brad Fittler confirms his squad for game two on Tuesday morning.
After falling 0-1 down in the series to Queensland in Adelaide on May 31, speculation around the Blues' halves pairing has dominated headlines leading into Brisbane next week, with both camps suffering huge blows through injury during the match and in following NRL rounds.
Hynes, 26, saw just 12 minutes of game time in game one, coming off the bench to slot into the centres just as the Maroons crossed over twice with 12 men on the park to take get one step closer to retaining the shield.
A start in the halves looked a real chance after Blues' and Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary was ruled out of the remainder of the series last week.
Despite his coach at Cronulla Craig Fitzgibbon and former coach Craig Bellamy, at the Storm, backing as Fittler's best option at half back, Hynes' part in his Sharks' 50-14 loss to Melbourne on Sunday might have seen his papers stamped.
Despite being starved of a real opportunity to prove himself with the Blues - Hynes sat of the fringes of NSW's series loss last year, the Wiradjuri man will make way for Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses to slot into the no.7 jumper.
On Sunday Bellamy said Hynes would be in his thirteen "every day of the week".
Rabbitohs' halfback and experienced Blue Cody Walker had previously been touted as an option to replace Jerome Luai at five-eighth in a move away from a Panthers-centric duo leading the side.
The change looks increasingly unlikely as a major shake-up looms in an effort to square the ledger ahead of game three in Sydney.
For Queensland, Selwyn Cobbo has been ruled out from a shot at clinching the series on his home deck next week after exacerbating a hip injury he picked up in game one while playing for the Broncos at the weekend.
Cobbo scored twice in his side's 26-18 win at Adelaide Oval.

Maroons' coach Billy Slater faced similar injury headaches ahead of naming his side for game two on Monday, making a handful of changes to cover for unavailable stars.
NSW are set to confirm their 19-man squad on Tuesday morning.
