D'Arcy Short has started Darwin's Top End T20 tournament in scintillating form, leading the NT Strike to victory with a dominant display against the Perth Scorchers in Friday night's tournament opener.
The 34-year-old smashed a game-high 84 from just 34 balls in the Strike's demolition of the Scorchers, the home side comfortably chasing down Perth's 6/152 to open the tournament with an emphatic victory.
After tight opening overs were delivered by Scorchers' openers Matthew Kelly and Bryce Jackson, Short clicked into gear in the third, scoring multiple boundaries from the bowling of Kelly before hitting back-to-back sixes from the following over.
However it was from the bowling of first change bowler Declan Power where Mitakoodi opener found his range, Short hitting five consecutive boundaries before finishing with a six to take 26 from the fifth over.
From there the floodgates opened with Short dispatching the Scorchers attack for a total of 11 boundaries and five sixes before being caught from the bowling of Matthew Spoors (1-11) partway through the ninth over.
Largely due to Short's dominant display which saw him strike at an incredible 247.05, the Strike only required a further 6.4 overs after his dismissal to chase down Perth's total.
Starts from Jake Weatherald (29 from 21) and Jacob Dickman (28 from 23), played solid support roles to the lead act of Short to see the Strike home with 30 balls and seven wickets in hand.
Earlier in the match, Scorchers openers Sam Fanning and Teague Wyllie joint top scored with 34 apiece. Short went wicketless (0-18) from his two overs.

Short then carried his form with the bat into the Strike's match up against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday, hitting a quick fire 34 (20) as part of a strong top order performance from the Strike which saw them post a competitive 5-171.
Strike captain Jacob Dickman top scored with 43 (37), with Weatherald (29 from 20) and Connor Carroll (29 from 32) also in the runs.
Short wasn't required with the ball in the Strikers' chase, which saw just two Strikers batters surpass 20.
Lachlan Bangs (4-18) was the Strike's best with the ball.
In their third match of the tournament, the Strike were brought back to earth after losing by six wickets to Tasmania on Monday.
Short missed out for the first time in the tournament, managing 1 (2) before being run out by Tim Ward.
The Strike went on to post 9-108, with Tasmania chasing down the modest total with six wickets and 19 balls to spare.
The NT Strike next face the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday.
