Track star Telaya Blacksmith to represent Australia at 2023 Virtus Global Games

Hot off the heels of a stellar year, Warlpiri track star Telaya Blacksmith has been selected alongside eight others to represent Australia at the 2023 Virtus Global Games.

Held in Vichy, France, from June 4-10th, the games will feature 14 sports including athletics is one.

The event organisers have applied for World Para Athletics (WPA) sanctioning and will provide international classification opportunities for selected athletes.

Events are being offered for athletes in the II-1, II-2 and II-3 groups.

Hailing from Lajamanu in the Northern Terrirtoy, Ms Blacksmith is a T20 athlete who has been granted special permission to compete in the next Virtus Global games.

"I am so excited to be heading to Vichy with these awesome athletes, and I am so excited to be sharing this news with everyone," she said.

The athletes were chosen based on their performance at the Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022.

At only 15, Ms Blacksmith won the 100m gold, bronze in the 200m and finished fourth in the 400m at the recent Virtus Oceania Games in Brisbane.

She is currently the world number one U18 T20 female over 400m but needs community support to help get her over to France.

Her supporters have a target of $15,000 and have currently raise just under $10,000.

Annabelle Rodgers (Shot put)

Hugo Taheny (Shot put, Discus)

Lillee Wakefield (Hammer throw)

Australia will send a large team across 11 Sports: Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Equestrian, Futsal, Judo, Rowing, Swimming, Table Tennis Taekwondo and Tennis.
