Northern Territory product Mattea Breed, drafted by Hawthorn with selection four in Tuesday night's AFLW Season Eight supplementary draft, seems destined to make her mark.
The 174cm Breed is a powerful footballer who is capable of playing many different roles across the ground.
The 21-year-old was a dominant junior player for the Darwin Buffettes and claimed back-to-back best and fairest honours in the Northern Territory Football League's U18s Girls competition in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.
She later progressed into the senior ranks and produced quality football for both the Buffettes and Southern Districts, which included winning the Women's Premier League Rising Star award in 2018/19.
Hawthorn's AFLW List Manager Mitchell Cashion expressed his excitement about Breed joining the club.
"We're thrilled to welcome Mattea to the Hawthorn family," Cashion told hawthornfc.com.au
"With Mattea, we're getting a powerful forward/utility who continues to elevate her game. (She) has fantastic aerial ability and a strong kick.
"We're looking forward to seeing her transfer those skills to AFLW and believe she will be a great fit for our team."
After an excellent junior career in the Top End, Breed made the decision to further her footy by relocating to South Australia and joining SANFLW outfit Norwood.
She made an immediate impact for the Redlegs, earning selection in the 2020 SANFLW Team of the Year.
Breen continued with the Redlegs for the 2021 season before deciding to play at local level in 2022.
Since returning to the SANFLW – this time with North Adelaide – Breed has started the 2023 season in excellent form, averaging over 14 disposals and kicking six goals across four goals.
The athletic utility is also ranked second in average score involvements.
