A 41-year-old woman has died in a township outside Mparntwe/Alice Springs, allegedly at the hands of her partner.

It is understood the woman was allegedly beaten to death at Ilperle Tyathe (Warlpiri) town camp in the early hours of Sunday, with police responding to a report of a deceased woman at a residence in Braitling at around 8am.

The woman was declared dead at the scene and a 39-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

NT Police said they are currently treating the death as suspicious.

"A crime scene has been established and detectives from Crime Command are investigating," they said.

It is the second death of a woman allegedly at the hands of their partner in the town this year after a 51-year-old woman's body was found near the Todd River in January.

Her husband, 49-year-old Patrick Jungala Nolan, 49, was charged with her murder. It was alleged the Papunya man was on a domestic violence order at the time.

He appeared in court on January 15 but is yet to enter a plea and has been remanded in custody.

Eight Aboriginal women died as a result of domestic violence in the NT between June and November 2024. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are eight times more likely to die by homicide.
