A man has been arrested by police after the death of a 30-year-old woman and 10-year-old girl following a serious traffic accident in the remote Queensland Indigenous community of Doomadgee.

The 30-year-old Cloncurry driver died at the scene after receiving first aid, and the young girl was taken to Doomadgee Hospital where she was declared deceased.

Another passenger was in a critical condition as of Friday afternoon, with two other passengers also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6:30am on Friday morning where the driver and four passengers were located with serious injuries.

A 28-year-old man known to the deceased was taken into custody soon after.

He was not in the same vehicle as the five other people.

A crime scene has been declared with investigations ongoing.

It is not known whether the driver, passengers or man arrested are First Nations people.

Doomadgee, around 100 kilometres from the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and 130 kilometres east of the Northern Territory border, is a remote community in the Aboriginal Shire of Doomadgee of around 1,300 people. 90 per cent of the community's residents are Indigenous, the 2021 census reports.

Police have urged the community to remain respectful as investigations continue, with support being offered to the community and local officers by police.
