Expressions of Interest are now open for place-based mentors to work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism businesses across Australia.
The First Nations Tourism Mentoring Program, launched on 24 February, is backed by $10 million in federal funding.
The program will provide First Nations tourism businesses across Australia with access to free, one-on-one mentoring services from experienced tourism industry professionals.
It is being delivered by PwC's Indigenous Consulting (PIC), a First Nations consulting business, in partnership with Intrepid Travel, a certified B Corp (enterprise committed to investing in values for non-shareholding stakeholders) with a mission to create positive change through travel, and Welcome to Country, a social enterprise working to elevate First Nations retail and tourism.
The partnership, supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, aims to foster the growth of the First Nations tourism sector.
PIC Partner Kate Healy said it was "great to see continued commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism".
"We are very excited to work with the sector and administer this program and look forward to partnering with Welcome to Country and Intrepid Travel," she said.
Brett Mitchell, Managing Director ANZ, Intrepid Travel said that as part of the Program partnership, Intrepid was pleased to progress their "social and cultural journey" as a company.
"We will go beyond our existing commitment to First Nations experiences in our trips by also working with emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses," he said.
"We look forward to sharing our extensive national and international knowledge and connections to the design and implementation of the program."
Welcome to Country chief executive Desmond Campbell said their social enterprise "exists to elevate the Indigenous retail and tourism sector".
"We work with suppliers and operators across Australia to provide a digital shopping experience that cannot be found anywhere else," he said.
"Indigenous tourism is at an exciting and prosperous period, we want to ensure this is shared no matter where an operator comes from.
"This innovative mentoring program will provide our communities with what they need on their terms, and we look forward to working together in partnership with PIC and Intrepid to build and deliver this program strengthening the industry as a whole."
Organisations and sole traders interested in becoming mentors are encouraged to submit an application via the website fntmp.com.au.
Applications will close 11 April this year.
