Rugby league convert Matt Hill will remain a Hawk after signing an extension and breaking into the club's senior side in 2026.

Hill, 22, arrived at Hawthorn as a category B rookie with a pedigree in the NRL system and waited two years before making his AFL debut against Melbourne in Launceston in round 17.

The Nyoongar, Ballardong, Wardandi, Gajerrong and Bunuba man held onto his spot for the second senior game the following week.

He's locked in to remain at Hawthorn until at least the end of 2028 having signed a two-year extension, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The Katherine-raised talent played Aussie rules through his teens, and came onto the Suns academy radar before spending time with NRL heavyweights Brisbane Broncos' pathways and Melbourne Storm and its academy and First Nations Pathways Program.

Hill had consistently been hitting the scoreboard in Box Hill's forward line in the VFL before earning the AFL call up.

"Having shown us all some exciting flashes of what he's capable of at AFL level, we're delighted to have Hilly continue his career at Hawthorn," Hawks recruiting and list manager Mark McKenzie said.

"On top of his raw speed, power and toughness, Hilly's continual growth and development give us confidence he can add further layers to his game to become a dynamic and consistent forward.

"We're very keen to see what Hilly can produce in the brown and gold in the years ahead."

Hill got onto the scoreboard with his debut AFL goal in his second game against Carlton.
