Five undercover police cars pulled up outside the local radio station in Halls Creek — a remote Aboriginal town in Western Australia's Kimberley region — around 8am on Wednesday, as listeners tuned in to the morning broadcast on Puranyanga-Ranka Kerrum (6PRK/98.1FM).
Locals said officers entered the building.
National Indigenous Times contacted WA Police, who referred the matter to the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). The NIAA confirmed that search warrants had been executed at the 6PRK station.
The Agency said it could not provide any detail on what the warrants related to, citing an ongoing investigation.
6PRK declined to comment, saying it would provide a statement after receiving legal advice.
The station provides local broadcasting for the Halls Creek community and also draws on PAKAM — the Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media network linking remote stations across northern WA.
It also receives national Indigenous news and syndicated programs through the National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS).
6PRK plays a central role in the region, airing news, community messages and announcements in Kriol and local languages, and promoting Indigenous music and local voices.
