Olympic bronze medal winner and NBA champion Patty Mills is set to team up with two fellow Australian Boomers in the NBA next season after being acquired by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After spending two seasons at the Brooklyn Nets, Mills is set to join the Thunder after originally being traded to the Houston Rockets on a hectic day two of the NBA free agency period, which opened on June 30.
The Nets parted ways with the 6'0" combo guard in the trade that saw the franchise not take back a player in the exchange, essentially offloading the final year of the 34-year-old's contract.
The Rockets then sent Mills to Oklahoma the following day with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reporting the Thunder agreed to take on Mills' $US6.8 million ($A10.2m) expiring contract, receiving draft compensation as part of the deal.
Multiple US outlets have reported the Mills deal involves up to five teams, with the Rockets receiving Canadian forward Dillon Brooks, Memphis Grizzlies acquiring shooting guard Josh Christopher with Spanish forward Usman Garuba and point guard TyTy Washington heading to the Atlanta Hawks, who also receive draft compensation.
It is yet to be determined if the Nets will receive assets as part of the deal.
Mills' arrival in Oklahoma will see three Boomers on the one NBA roster, with emerging star Josh Giddey and Jack White, who won this year's NBA championship with the Denver Nuggets, also signing with OKC on a two-year deal.
The Mills, Giddey and White combination will be the third time an Australian trio will be together on a NBA roster.
Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle and Jonah Bolden were briefly together with the 2019-20 Philadelphia 76ers whilst Dante Exum, Thon Maker and Matthew Dellavedova were on the same Cleveland Cavaliers roster in 2020.
Mills, Giddey and White are all members of the current Boomers squad set to compete in this year's FIBA World Cup, which is being held across Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines in August.
The acquisition of Mills and White alongside the return of 2022 number two pick Chet Holmgren, who missed last season with a foot injury, is expected to add depth to a Thunder side who qualified for 2023 NBA play-in tournament, before being knocked out by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
During his time with the Nets, Mills averaged 8.8 points per game in 21.6 minutes per game across two seasons.
He joined the Nets after signing in 2021 following a nine-year stint with the San Antonio Spurs, where he won his sole NBA championship in 2014.
