Young North Melbourne forward Robert Hansen jr has earned another contract extension off the back of consistent appearances in the club's senior side to remain at Arden Street in 2026.

The 21-year-old penned his one-year deal this week, having locked himself in for the current season off the back of six AFL games at the back end of last year.

Hansen arrived at North as pick number two in 2023's mid-season rookie draft.

Originally from Kalgoorlie, the crafty forward was plucked from Subiaco in his home state after breaking into their WAFL senior side earlier that year.

He debuted for the Roos in round 20, collecting a second senior game the following week, in 2023.

Hansen has played 12 senior games so far, including rounds one through four of 2025.

In the VFL, the youngster has kicked 22.12 from 21 games, including bests of 4.1 against Geelong in his first year, and four straight majors away at Casey mid-way through 2024.

"Robbie has also taken some strides forward during his time at the club and showed he can bring a spark to our forward line with his speed," North head of footy talent Brady Rawling said.

"We look forward to watching both players continue their development."

Hansen re-signed alongside 2024 draftee Matt Whitlock this week, who will stay on at the club until at least the end of 2027.

The Roos are 1-7 after the first third of the AFL season following a nail-biting loss to Essendon on Thursday night.

North dug their way back into the contest after going into the main break four goals down, but couldn't capitalise on entries and a wave of pressure on the Bombers' backline to pinch the lead across the dying stages.

Essendon claimed their third win of the season 9.11 (65) - 9.8 (62).

Hansen didn't feature in the contest.
