Three Woorabinda locals have begun working as lifeguards after completing their Bronze Medallion training.

The trio were supported by Community Spirit Foundation's Sprints Passport program, which helped them acquire their Bronze Medallion and other necessary qualifications to begin working in these roles.

With their help, Woorabinda men Michael Choolburra-Singho, Gerald Jacob and Rex Jacob have all begun their jobs as the community's newest lifeguards.

Mr Choolburra-Singho said growing up he had always enjoyed swimming and spending the hotter days at the Woorabinda pool.

"Growing up, I always went to the swimming pool; it's where families come on hot days," he said.

"The Community Spirit Foundation team helped me to get the IDs I needed, which took a few months to get sorted. Without them, it would have been much harder."

The program, delivered in partnership with UNICEF Australia, seeks to equip young First Nations people with key skills, confidence and tools to help them transition into their chosen pathways after school.

Community Spirit Foundation executive officer Jade Colgan said it's about helping dismantle the barriers stopping young First People from entering the workforce.

"Employment opportunities in remote communities can be limited, and First Nations young people often face barriers to entering the workforce," Ms Colgan said.

"This is a terrific example of when local organisations come together to support local young people to set goals, and work to achieve them."

The Community Spirit Foundation supports young First Nations people through their education journey, in order to assist them to make the transition towards a future of their choosing.

Choolburra-Singho, Jacob and Jacob will have the opportunity to work in different roles within the council whilst the pool is closed during the colder months.
