Ginninderry, a leading sustainable community development project, is proud to announce that Expressions of Interest are now open for the Ginninderry First Nations Reference Group (GFNRG), reinforcing its long-held commitment to meaningful collaboration with First Nations communities in the Capital Region.
The newly formed GFNRG will provide strategic advice on social, economic, and environmental opportunities arising from the Ginninderry project, ensuring that First Nations voices continue to shape its development.
Matthew Frawley, Ginninderry's Urban Design & Landscape Manager, emphasised the importance of this initiative.
"Ginninderry has always been about creating a community that respects and values the deep cultural connections of First Nations people to the Country we work on. Establishing the GFNRG marks a significant step in strengthening these relationships and ensuring that First Nations experiences and perspectives are embedded in the project's future," he said.
Since its inception, Ginninderry has actively engaged with First Nations communities, working closely with Registered Aboriginal Organisations (RAOs), Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), and Cultural Knowledge Holders. As the project transitions into its development phase, the GFNRG will play a crucial role in identifying further opportunities for the local First Nations community.
"We see the First Nations Reference Group as a vital advisory body that will guide us in creating inclusive, sustainable outcomes that benefit First Nations communities and the broader Capital Region. This initiative reflects our commitment to reconciliation and shared prosperity," Mr Frawley said.
In addition to the GFNRG, Ginninderry remains steadfast in its commitment to engaging with the area's Cultural Knowledge Holders, who have played a critical role in the cultural heritage values assessment process. These individuals have provided valuable insights through the Ginninderry Aboriginal Advisory Group, ensuring that tangible and intangible cultural heritage values are preserved and respected throughout the project. As the development progresses, Cultural Knowledge Holders will continue to be consulted to guide best practices in heritage management and community engagement.
The group will consist of skilled First Nations representatives who will provide expertise across key areas such as community services, business development, environmental conservation, arts and culture, and planning.
Expressions of Interest for membership in the GFNRG are now open, with applications closing on April 30, 2025.
