Rising Kamilaroi quick Charlie Anderson has taken team-best figures, claiming heavyweight wickets for the Prime Minister's XI against India on Sunday.

The fixture also gave Scott Boland a look at the tourists ahead of his likely recall for the second Test.

An extended Indian team claimed a six-wicket win in their only preparations with the pink ball in a rain-affected 50 over tour match at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

India chased the 240 runs for victory with six wickets in hand, a target set up by a 90-ball century from PM's XI opener Sam Konstas, before batting on to take every opportunity at playing under lights, but not before Anderson made a statement against the global powerhouse.

The 19-year-old made the breakthrough when Perth-centurian Yashasvi Jaiswal skied a wide one to cover after putting on a 75-run stand with KL Rahul.

Anderson may have also forced questions to the Indian camp, coaxing returning skipper Rohit Sharma (5) into driving, catching the outside edge which was caught at first slip by Ollie Davies.

Anderson finished with figures of 2-30 from his six overs with the ball.

Leading the attack, Boland stifled Jaiswal and KL Rahul during his opening spell.

The 35-year-old went for just one run across his opening three overs ahead of his probable return to the Australian XI for the second Test, starting Friday.

He ended with 0-36 off his 10 overs (two maidens) in what could prove useful match time.

"We are utilising the opportunity to maintain Scott Boland's match fitness in his preparations as part of the Test squad," Australian chief selector George Bailey said on the PM's XI squad announcement.

Boland is expected to replace Josh Hazlewood for the match, who was ruled out at the weekend with a side injury, Cricket Australia confirmed on Saturday.

His preparations to start the summer have been limited to one Shield game for Victoria, Australia A's win over India A early November and the PM's XI fixture.

Worimi seamer Brendan Doggett has also been brought into the squad as an outside chance of becoming the fifth Indigenous Australian to play Test cricket.

Last time Boland played for the national side under lights he helped dismantle the West Indians order with a three wicket maiden.

With wickets tumbling over the opening days of the Border-Gavaskar Series in Perth, India cruised to a hefty 295-run victory.
