300-gamer Shane Edwards designs Indigenous jumper for the club "where it all started"

Richmond champion Shane Edwards has designed the Indigenous jumper for local South Australian football club Golden Grove, which is set to be worn next month.

Golden Grove – nicknamed the Kookaburras – compete in the Adelaide Footy League's Division Two competition.

Edwards spent his childhood years living in Golden Grove and started his football journey at the club aged eight.

The 34-year-old told The Crows Show that he felt honoured to be approached by his junior club to design the jumper.

"Golden Grove Footy Club is where it all started for me," Edwards told The Crows Show.

"They asked me if I wanted to design the jumper and I was pretty quick to say yes – I couldn't be more rapt with being asked.

"I really gave myself time to put what I thought should go on there before I asked around."

Throughout the design process, Edwards collaborated with Pat Caruso of We Create Print Deliver, the man who designed the Crows' 2022 Indigenous strip.

"There are three boomerangs – that's been my story, to leave and go and play for Richmond in Melbourne to coming back to Adelaide," Edwards said.

"The three ovals are the three ovals Golden Grove has played on (and with) the different colours around the outside of the meeting place – the green ones are the coaches, all four coaches I had when I was playing there with the president, team manager, parents and teammates all looking in.

"Down here you've got the symbol for man and woman. All the yellow dots on this bottom boomerang represent every player I've played with at Golden Grove."

Edwards retired from the AFL at the conclusion of the 2022 season after a magnificent 303-game career with Richmond, which is more games than any other Indigenous player in the club's history.

The silky-skilled half forward won three premierships with the Tigers and was included in the 2018 All-Australian team.

Upon his retirement, Edwards relocated back to South Australia and joined Adelaide as the club's Indigenous Player Development Manager.

Golden Grove will don this wonderful strip for their clash against Edwardstown on June 17.

The Kookaburras won the Adelaide Footy League's Division Three premiership last season and have since been promoted the Division Two, where they currently sit on top of the ladder.
