Retired AFL star Willie Rioli is set to train with WAFL club South Fremantle this month.
The West Australian reported on Monday that the West Coast premiership player will be in Boorloo / Perth next week to meet with Bulldogs coach Craig White and the team's leadership group, and train with the side.
The Tiwi star played 109 games and kicked 151 goals across three seasons at West Coast and three seasons with Port Adelaide.
The 30-year-old could play a key role in South Fremantle's bid for back-to-back WAFL premierships.
The West Australian reports Bulldogs president Peter Christie, chief executive Cam Britt and football boss Charlie Burke flew to Darwin on the weekend to watch Rioli play for the Tiwi Bombers, where he was named best on ground for a three-goal effort in a win against Palmerston, before meeting with him.
Rioli played colts for South Fremantle before heading to SANFL club Glenelg - from where he was drafted by West Coast - meaning he is classified as a one-point player under the WAFL player point system. This would help Souths pick up the gun forward despite being the reigning premier.
"South Fremantle has a 50 year association with the Northern Territory and the Rioli family and they are relationships that we hold dearly," Britt, who is a board member at the Tiwi Bombers, told The West Australian.
"Willie is a fantastic character and footballer. And we're excited about what the future may hold for both he and the football club in whatever capacity that takes."
Willie Rioli Senior played 48 games and kicked 53 goals for South Fremantle in two stints (1989-1990 and 1994). He spent 1991 on Hawthorn's AFL list after being drafted with pick 48.
