North Melbourne player Tarryn Thomas will "remain away from the club" following a string of serious allegations made against him by multiple women.

Earlier this week, accounts of alleged threatening and intimidating behaviour surfaced after multiple reports were made to the AFL from the women involved.

The 22-year-old had previously been charged with threatening to distribute an intimate image after a months-long investigation by police, believed to involve a former partner. This matter is currently before the courts.

The Kangaroos said both Thomas and the club co-operated during this time and Thomas has been undertaking behavioural training and education - which will continue following the recent allegations.

Thomas was also caught allegedly driving without a license over Christmas.

On Wednesday night, North released a statement saying Thomas will now "remain away from the club" while the AFL gathers information.

It follows a spat of criticism at their handling of the situation where Thomas was expected to continue his preparations for the upcoming season.

"Tarryn Thomas will take time away from the club after the AFL's integrity unit informed North Melbourne of a new allegation of inappropriate behaviour on Wednesday afternoon," North's statement read.

"The club and Thomas made a commitment to co-operate fully in any investigation if new information was presented.

"In light of this new information, Thomas will remain away from the club while the AFL gathers further information about the allegations.

"In the meantime, Thomas will be expected to meet his obligations around his respectful behaviour training and education program, as outlined in club correspondence earlier today."
