Nearly 100 community members gathered at the Ieramugadu (Roebourne) basketball court last week to celebrate an exciting new partnership between Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL) and Yandi for Change (Yandi).
After five successful years delivering the Connected Beginnings program in partnership with the Department of Communities, Yandi is entering a new chapter focused on deepening cultural leadership and building local capacity.
This next phase sees Yandi partnering with Elders from the Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders and welcoming Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation to Ieramugadu/Roebourne.
Julyardi will work alongside Yandi's existing team to provide operational support helping Yandi grow towards its long-term vision: to become a local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that responds directly to Ieramugadu's needs.
Following a Welcome to Country, Ngarluma Elder Josie Samson and Kariyarra Elder Raylene Button addressed the crowd at the launch on Wednesday.
Elders from both groups then shared reflections on the journey so far and their aspirations for the future of the partnership.
"It's time for the serious business now," Ms Samson told the gathering.
HASL Elders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Yandi's path to self-determination through strong cultural governance.
After the formalities the community enjoyed a BBQ and live music from local artists.
