SPONSORED: The weekend of March 13 and 14 saw MADALAH staff and students officially kickstart the year with two very successful events.
Our Year 7 camp was held for our Perth and South West-based students at the Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre from March 13-14.
A group of 47 students arrived at lunchtime on the Saturday and spent the afternoon participating in various outdoor team building activities, including ultimate sports and pool games. After dinner, students enjoyed an outdoor movie experience in the amphitheatre before heading off to bed for the night.
MADALAH staff and mentors enjoyed this time getting to know our new Year 7 scholars and supporting them as they start to navigate their exciting journey at secondary school.
On Sunday morning, we continued our team building and students and staff alike set up stations and activities for our MADALAH Orientation Day.
At midday, approximately another 200 MADALAH secondary and tertiary scholarship recipients arrived and Orientation began. After a wonderful Welcome to Country by Shaun Nannup, students were treated to some time with MADALAH Patron, Syd Jackson.
While eating their lunch, students listened to South Summit, a young and upcoming band made up of MADALAH alumni who recently launched their debut EP.
After lunch, students were split into groups of 30 and they spent the afternoon moving through a variety of activities, including yarning circles, painting, giant games, cards and mapping their country. They also had the opportunity to hear about the Duke of Edinburgh Award and pick up some MADALAH merchandise.
The whole weekend was a bonding experience for the students, MADALAH staff and mentors that will hopefully strengthen relationships as MADALAH supports these students throughout their education journey.
It was a fantastic turn out and we would like to thank the students and school staff who attended, and especially our MADALAH staff and mentors who, without their time and dedication, these events would not have been possible.
