ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking Disability Advocates for our Yarn’n Strong ILC (Information, Linkages and Capacity Building) project who share our values and passion for social justice for mob. In this role, you'll be part of a team that delivers culturally appropriate and safe information, group activities, self-advocacy support and training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a community connector who is client-focused, and has an interest in standing up and empowering mob in self-determination. You will be someone who thrives in engaging in meaningful conversation with the ability to demonstrate successful program outcomes.

Your role will include:

• Providing input and feedback into the design and delivery of Yarn’n Strong program activities and resources

• Delivering engaging group activities and individual support/ training in the community

• Respectfully engaging and working collaboratively with community, community leaders and other stakeholders in the delivery of project activities

• Accurately completing all administration tasks

• Ensuring all service targets are met or exceeded

• Identifying service gaps for continuous improvement

• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of sector and legislation.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

• Strong community connections; understanding and carrying out culturally respectful practices

• Experience presenting and communicating with groups and individuals

• Experience working within the disability sector and advocacy practices

• Good knowledge of social justice frameworks, human rights legislation and complaints process mechanisms

• Solid problem-solving skills with a solution focus

• Tertiary qualified in social work / health / community or human services or relevant experience

• Must have a current driver’s license

• Must have a NDIS Worker Screening Clearance

• Must have a Working with Children Blue Card.
