ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION
Country Needs People is a medium-sized environmental non-profit organisation, making positive impact across Australia and beyond. Founded as a standalone organisation in 2020, we work with Indigenous land and sea management groups around Australia to deliver protection and good management of biodiversity and cultural values on land and sea. Our unique approach contributes to a truly sustainable economy and benefits all Australians.
We are a small team, with an office in Canberra and staff and contractors working in a combination of remote and in-office roles.
We work closely and strategically with Indigenous partners, Indigenous Ranger groups, governments, Traditional Owners, and other stakeholders to enhance the quantity, quality and security of Indigenous-led natural and cultural values management. We combine:
- strategic, non-partisan advocacy to state and federal governments;
- communications campaigns to build a broad public support base across Australia; and
- collaborative project work and organisational advice and support with and for Indigenous land and sea management organisations.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Digital Communications and Campaign Lead helps tell the story of Country Needs People’s work and inspires people to support Indigenous Rangers, Indigenous Protected Areas and caring for Country.
Working closely with our CEO, Communications Manager and wider team, you will develop engaging digital content and campaigns across social media, our website, email and paid advertising channels. Your work will support advocacy, fundraising, supporter engagement and organisational communications.
You will help translate our work into clear and compelling communications, grow our audiences, manage digital platforms and use campaign data to continually improve our reach and impact.
This is an opportunity to use your digital communications skills to help shape national conversations and build lasting support for Indigenous-led land and sea management.
ABOUT YOU
You are a creative and strategic digital communicator who combines strong storytelling skills with an understanding of audiences, data and campaign performance.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience using digital communications and campaigns to engage and mobilise audiences

- The ability to coordinate projects, manage competing priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and suppliers
- A proactive and adaptable approach, with an interest in emerging digital trends
- A commitment to positive outcomes for Australia’s environment and Indigenous-led land and sea management.
A relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience—typically five or more years in a similar role—is expected. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations or stakeholders is desirable but not essential.
We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. If you're passionate about our mission and can bring transferable skills and experience to the role, we'd love to hear from you.
