The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) is looking nationally for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader who wants to help shape the next chapter of Aboriginal community-controlled health in South Australia.

This is an important leadership opportunity for AHCSA and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector in South Australia.

AHCSA is seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader who believes strongly in community control, brings strategic thinking and sound judgement, and knows how to build genuine relationships across community, government and the health system.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Team, and Member Services, helping shape strategic direction, strengthen advocacy and ensure the voices and priorities of the sector are heard where decisions are being made.

About the role

Full-Time | 2 year fixed term | 1.0 FTE

The Deputy CEO / General Manager Strategic Leadership and Sector Engagement is a senior executive position providing strategic leadership across AHCSA and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) sector.

Working closely with the CEO and Executive Team, the position contributes to the development and implementation of AHCSA's strategic direction, organisational priorities and sector advocacy.

The position provides high-level strategic advice on complex organisational, sector and policy matters, while identifying and responding to emerging opportunities, risks and challenges.

As Deputy CEO, you will:

• Lead AHCSA's Strategic Leadership and Sector Engagement function.

• Support and influence AHCSA's strategic direction, advocacy and external engagement.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with Member Services, government, funding bodies, peak organisations and key stakeholders.

• Represent AHCSA and, where required, the CEO at senior forums and engagements.

• Advocate for the priorities and interests of the ACCHO sector at local, state and national levels.

• Support the effective leadership, performance and strategic management of AHCSA.

• Act on behalf of the CEO as required.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Work closely with the CEO and Executive Team to develop and implement AHCSA's strategic direction and organisational priorities.

• Provide high-level strategic advice on organisational, sector, policy and reform matters.

• Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and recommend strategic responses.

• Support alignment across the Executive Team and contribute to effective organisational decision-making.

• Provide executive leadership on complex and sensitive matters and strategic initiatives.

• Represent the CEO and AHCSA within delegated authority.

Sector Engagement and Advocacy

• Lead strategic discussions with Member Services to identify sector priorities, opportunities and challenges.

• Provide strategic leadership and advice on issues affecting the ACCHO sector and Aboriginal health.

• Lead development of sector positions, priorities and responses.

• Monitor policy, funding and reform agendas and advise on implications and opportunities.

Deputy CEO Responsibilities

• Support the CEO in organisational leadership, performance and strategic management.

• Contribute to oversight of organisational priorities and strategic initiatives.

• Provide high-level advice on emerging opportunities and challenges.

• Act for and represent the CEO as required.

Essential Experience and Knowledge

Essential Experience

• Experience working with Aboriginal people, organisations and communities.

• Experience in a senior management role within the health sector, including sector development, strategic planning and partnership building.

• Experience leading teams to achieve common goals.

• Experience engaging and negotiating with senior stakeholders.

• Experience using information technology systems including Microsoft Office applications, databases and spreadsheets.

Essential Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of Aboriginal health and wellbeing issues.

• Understanding of comprehensive primary health care and substance misuse services.

• Understanding of the Aboriginal community-controlled sector and its operating environment.

• Knowledge of state and Commonwealth Aboriginal health systems and funding arrangements.

• Knowledge of Aboriginal health policy and reform agendas.

• Knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements relevant to the ACCHO sector.

Special Conditions

• A requirement of the position is that the incumbent identifies as being of Aboriginal or

  Torres Strait Islander descent pursuant to the exemption from the Equal Opportunity

  Act 1984 (SA).

• Some intra-state and interstate travel, including overnight absences will be required.

• Possession of a current driver’s licence is essential.

• National Police Certificate required.

• DHS Working With Children Check (SA).

• Out of hours work will be required.
