- Type: full time
- Location: australia
- Applications By: 19th July 2026
About the position
We're looking for a senior communications leader to join BZE in driving our narrative, media presence, and communications delivery.
This is a rare role: strategic enough to set direction, hands-on enough to make things happen, and collaborative enough to bring a brilliant team along for the ride. You'll own BZE's narrative, build its profile, and lead communications that genuinely shift the conversation — with researchers and policy experts around you who live and breathe this work.
Reporting to the Chief Researcher, you'll set strategy, coach spokespeople, turn research into content that lands, and make sure BZE's voice is sharp and heard where it counts — with government, donors, partners, and the public.
This opportunity is available full-time or at 0.8 FTE based in Melbourne, with other Australian east coast locations also considered.
What you'll be doing
-
Leading BZE's communications strategy and keeping narrative and messaging clear, consistent, and evidence-grounded across every channel and audience
-
Developing and delivering communications projects across the organisation — from major research launches to donor and government engagement
-
Making complex research readable and resonant for industry, government, and public audiences
-
Running a proactive and reactive media strategy: pitching stories, cultivating journalist relationships, and growing BZE's share of voice
-
Preparing and coaching BZE spokespeople — Board, CEO, and staff — for media and public appearances
-
Owning the BZE style guide, website, and social channels
-
Leading, coaching, and building the capability of the Digital Media Officer and volunteers
-
Tracking what's landing and reporting outcomes to leadership with honesty and insight
Please view the Position Description for full details.

-
Experience across multiple channels including digital, media, events, and emerging platforms
-
Proven media skills: pitching, journalist relationships, spokesperson preparation
-
Strong writing ability — able to make complex research land with diverse audiences
-
Experience leading teams and driving projects from concept to delivery
-
Background in research, policy, advocacy, or not-for-profit environments preferred
-
A genuine interest in climate action and Australia's zero-emissions transition
