Specialist officers who shot and killed Aubrey Donahue were not wearing body-worn cameras, Queensland police said on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Indigenous man was shot four times and killed by police responding to a domestic violence call out on Saturday.
Officers claim he was carrying a knife while family members say Mr Donahue was unarmed, and only carrying a mobile phone in his hand.
Community members protested outside the police station on Sunday and called for the release of footage of the incident from body-worn cameras.
A bigger protest marched through the town on Monday.
On Tuesday the Townsville Bulletin reported Queensland police said the tactical response officers who shot Mr Donahue were not wearing cameras at the time of the shooting.
Mr Donahue's mother said the family deserves answers.
