A captain's spell from Ash Gardner has helped the Trent Rockets to their second victory in England's The Hundred competition.

The Muruwari women was the pick of the Rockets' attack in their 6 wicket victory over the Oval Invincibles on Thursday.

Gardner took 2/10 from 10 balls to see the Invincibles restricted to 7/109 at The Oval.

After allowing six runs from her first five balls, Gardner returned to the crease at the 70-ball mark to turn the innings in the Rockets' favour.

On the first ball of her second spell Gardner dismissed hard-hitting South African international Marizanne Kapp caught and bowled for 7 (6), before claiming the key wicket of former Australian captain Meg Lanning (45 from 35) two balls later.

Looking to take on Gardner, Lanning launched Gardner in the air to the leg side to be caught easily by Nat Sciver-Brunt at long on.

Gardner's impact saw the Invincibles go from a strong position of 2/77 with 30 balls remaining to 4/81 with two new batters at the crease.

It was a day for the spinners with left arm orthodox Kirstie Gordon, also picking up two wickets.

In response the Rockets chased down the Invincibles with six wickets and 16 balls to spare.

Gardner was one of five Rockets to reach double figures despite only scoring 11 (7), before being caught from the bowling of fellow Australian spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, who was the pick of the Invincibles' attack with 1/15.

The victory leaves the Rockets sitting fifth on The Hundred points table with a 2-4 record ahead of their must win match against the winless Welsh Fire on Sunday.
