Cricket Tasmania has announced an experienced yet youthful squad which is set to compete at next month's National Indigenous Cricket Championships.

The 13-player squad includes nine players with experience at National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) level, with four debutants selected for the first Championships to be held away from its traditional home of Alice Springs.

Last year Tasmania progressed to the semi-final stage of the tournament after winning three out of five pool games, before losing to tournament runners up New South Wales.

Cricket Tasmania says this year's squad will be looking to improve on last year's strong on-field performance, whilst sharing knowledge and learnings from other indigenous people around the country.

"This program continues to develop each year, and with record numbers attending our trials across the state, this highlights the depth of Indigenous players playing cricket in our community," Cricket Tasmania's General Manager – Community Cricket, Alex King said.

"This carnival is a great way for players to represent their culture and connect through cricket and with several players involved in our youth pathway programs, and the tournament will provide another great opportunity for our players to showcase their skills on the National stage."

Several Cricket Tasmania Premier League 1st Grade representatives and Cricket Tasmania pathways players feature in the Tasmanian side.

The 2025 tournament will be held in Mackay from April 2-7 after Cricket Australia decided to move the tournament away from Alice Springs last year.

Formerly a division of the Imparja Cup, the tournament had been held in Alice Springs since 2016.

Tasmania will open their tournament against New South Wales on Wednesday 2 April at Mackay's Jack Lancaster Oval.
