Western Australia's Mid-West and surrounds have been hit by prolonged power outages, impacting many communities including Moora.
Moora is on Yued Country and, like a number of the affected areas, is home to a strong Indigenous community.
The power outages stretched from Sunday to Wednesday.
National Indigenous Times understands Moora residents lost a significant amount of food which spoiled in the extreme heat.
On Wednesday Nationals leader Shane Love slammed the outages, and noted the impact on communications during a particularly hazardous time.
"For three days, Mid-West communities have been without power and communications during a heatwave and nearby fires," the MLA said.
"This wouldn't be tolerated in the city — why is it acceptable in regional WA?"
National Indigenous Times contacted Western Power for comment.
On the utility's website it states:
"We know the past 24 hours have been tough for many households and businesses across WA following severe storms through Perth, the Mid West and Wheatbelt, and we appreciate the patience shown by our communities. At the peak of the storm, around 115,000 customers were affected by outages caused by damaging winds and debris impacting powerlines and equipment.
"(In the) Geraldton & Mid West Community... Damaging winds brought down trees and debris onto powerlines, affecting around 23,000 customers in Geraldton and surrounds at the peak of the outages. In the Mid West, the storm caused significant damage to both transmission and local distribution lines. Helicopter patrols have identified 20 damaged transmission poles and 30 damaged distribution poles. To support the community, we've deployed six emergency response generators to essential infrastructure, with additional generators being deployed today to Cervantes and Jurien."
