Australian fast bowler Scott Boland has been omitted from Australia's team for the second test of the Border-Gavaskar series.
After suggesting his place in the side was unlikely ahead of the match, the Gulidjan quick was left out of Australia's lineup in preference of left arm orthodox bowler Matt Kuhnemann, who was parachuted into the squad following the departure of Mitchell Swepson.
Boland's omission form the attack leaves Australia with a single pace bowler for the match, with captain Pat Cummins supported by Australia's spin-trio off debutante Kuhnemann, single-test bolter Todd Murphy and mainstay off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
The inclusion of Kuhnemann at the expense of Boland was one of two changes made by Australian selectors, with Travis Head returning to the side at the expense of Matt Renshaw.
Leading into the match, Boland said he was ready to play even though selectors were likely to preference a spin-heavy attack.
"Obviously I want to play. I enjoyed the challenge of bowling in these different conditions," Boland said.
"I don't think we're going to play three fast bowlers so there's only going to be two two spots up for grabs I reckon."
Boland said no matter what the final makeup of Australia's attack, both Boland and the touring squad have faith in the plans established by the bowling group.
"I think everyone had good plans from the start of the series and I don't think any of that needs to change" he said.
Australia's new-look attack only delivered nine overs on the first day's play with Cummins' electing to bat after winning the toss for the seventh straight test.
India are 0-29 in reply to Australia's 262 with Usman Khawaja (81) and Peter Handscomb (72*) the main Australian contributors.
