Ash Gardner's strong run of form has been recognised after being named the ICC Women's Player of the Month for June.

It is the third time Gardner has been voted the ICC's Player of the Month recipient, making her the first to receive the award three times.

The Muruwari allrounder was recognised primarily for her performance in the Ashes test between Australia and England.

Gardner took second innings figures of 8-66 and match figures of 12-165 to lead Australia to a comfortable 89-run victory in the one-off red ball encounter with England in the multi-format series.

Her innings and match figures both became records for the best bowling figures by an Australian bowler in women's Test cricket, and second overall respectively.

In thanking fans for voting her as ICC Player of the Month for June ahead of England opener Tammy Beaumont and West Indian allrounder Hayley Matthews, Gardner said Australia's victory over England at the historic Trent Bridge was a memorable victory for the Australian side.

"To win an Ashes Test match at Trent Bridge was a special moment for our team and I'm happy I was able to contribute towards the win," Gardner said.

"Winning a Test match overseas is one of the biggest challenges in cricket, it's certainly a game that we will remember for a long time to come.

"The women's Ashes series has seen record-breaking crowds in England, it's an exciting time for our sport and I'm thrilled to be part of it."

Gardner's 8-66 included all five England wickets on the final day's play in a match where she also contributed a valuable 40 in Australia's first innings.

After comfortably accounting for England in the one-off test, Gardner scored 31 (23) in Australia's victory in the opening T20 of the series.

However after England won the final two T20s, Australia need to win one of the remain three one-day international fixtures to retain the Ashes.

The first of three ODIs between Australia and England commences on Wednesday evening 8pm AWST, with the sides meeting at Bristol's County Ground, before fixtures in Southampton on Sunday and Taunton on Tuesday.
