The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation is offering up to $20,000 in funding to First Nations organisations impacted by natural disasters.
The Disaster Recovery Quick Response Grants, continue the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation's (ILSC) recent commitment of $250,000 in funding to 13 remote Indigenous community groups across Australia that were devastated by floods earlier this year.
ILSC Group Chief Executive Officer, Joe Morrison said his organisation was proud to be able to provide much-needed support to First Nations organisations impacted by recent floods.
"The ILSC recognises that bushfires, storm damage and floods are increasing each year due to the rise of climate change," he said.
"These grants provide a streamlined application and approval process, ensuring Indigenous corporations have more time to focus on immediate recovery following disasters".
Mr Morrison said many parts of the country could be in for a torrid bushfire season with the Bureau of Meteorology and the UN World Meteorological Organisation predicting the majority of Australia is moving into an El Niño cycle.
He said some areas of Australia have experienced a bigger than normal fuel growth over the last two years on the back of wet La Niñas cycles.
"We want to be prepared and ensure we are ready to support our communities. This funding will quickly help Indigenous organisations get back on their feet and recover as necessary," said Mr Morrison.
