Anika Learoyd's stellar 2024/25 season has been recognised with a national award as the summer of cricket concludes.
The Gumbaynggir woman was announced the recipient of Cricket Australia's Indigenous Cricketer of the Year on Monday following standout performances over the past 12 months with both New South Wales and the Sydney Thunder.
Representing New South Wales in every Women's National Cricket League fixture, Learoyd played a pivotal role in the Breakers' successful WNCL campaign.
The 22-year-old amassed 577 runs from 13 innings at an average of 48.08, including a Player of the Match performance in the competition decider, to help secure New South Wales' first WNCL title in six years.
In lime green for the Sydney Thunder she scored 131 runs at 17.12 including four not outs, with a top score of 31*.
Learoyd's form also earned her selection in the Governor-Generals XI who played England in January, the one off Green v Gold red-ball match in March and the recent multi-format series between Australia A and England A.
Ella Hayward's contribution to the Victorian team was also recognised with the off-spinning allrounder awarded Cricket Victoria's Women's Players' Player Award and the Sharon Tredrea Award.
Named after the former Australian all-rounder, the Sharon Tredrea Award is awarded to the best performed Victorian WNCL player.
The Jawoyn woman, who also plays in the Women's Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades, had a breakout season with both bat and ball for Victoria in the 2024/25 WNCL season.
The 21-year-old finished seventh in competition runs with 446 at an average of 40.54 (top score 112*), while finishing fifth in wickets with 21 dismissals at 29.5 (best bowling 6/31).
South Australia's Jackson Gillespie, who recently represented the state at last week's National Indigenous Cricket Championships, and Anne Dubois were awarded SA's Indigenous male and female Player of the Year, respectively.
