Several hundred gathered on Yuggera country at the Ipswich Turf Club in Bundamba on Thursday in celebration of NAIDOC Week, with this years theme being "For our Elders."

Despite the last minute venue change from Flinders View due to wet weather, the community turned out in droves where the sun shone bright for the majority of the day.

In usual NAIDOC week fashion, festivities included live performances, rides, stalls, camels and a huge row of tents offering opportunities and sharing knowledge for the community.

One community member said "This is our first time at the Ipswich one, bub has had a great day and my son was excited to meet the army and air force teams."

These community days are especially great for young people in high school contemplating prospective future careers, as the NAIDOC celebrations always offer a variety of insight into the working world for young Indigenous people.

Ipswich City Council Mayor Teresa Harding said "It was wonderful to join together with the Ipswich community to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today at Ipswich NAIDOC 2023."

"The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders and it was great to see all the generations come together to pay respects to the Elders in our community."

NAIDOC Week celebrations continue in Greater Brisbane and Ipswich with Musgrave Park's event being held on Friday.
