Early voting has begun in the inaugural 2024 South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament Election with the opening of voting centres across the state.

The South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament Election on Saturday, March 16, is when South Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders vote to elect their representatives to the state's First Nations Voice to Parliament.

Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in South Australia can vote in election.

To form the Six Local First Nations Voice bodies, the Electoral Commission of South

Australia will be holding an election on Saturday, March 16, which will allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to elect the members of each Local First Nations Voice body.

Representatives will be elected by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living within each

Local First Nations Voice region. The six regions include:

- Region 1 – Central

- Region 2 – Far North

- Region 3 – Flinders and Far North

- Region 4 – Riverland and South East

- Region 5 – West and West Coast

- Region 6 – Yorke and Mid North

Electoral Commission of South Australia Director of Communications, James Trebilcock, said on Wednesday that "13 early voting centres open from today" in the inaugural South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament Election.

"These centres will be open across the state until the day before polling – Saturday, March 16," he said.

"This is an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to vote on who will represent them on the Local First Nations Voice.

"We encourage eligible electors to vote in the SA Voice Election at one of 32 in-person polling locations across the state on polling day, Saturday, March 16, by attending one of 13 early voting centres open between now and Friday, March 15, or at one of the 50 mobile polling locations across the state. The location of these polling booths, mobile polling locations and early voting centres can be found at savoiceelection.sa.gov.au."

Mr Trebilcock said those who can't attend a polling booth can apply to vote via post by downloading a postal vote application from savoiceelection.sa.gov.au, and those who live outside of the metropolitan region can pick up an application form from your local post office.

"We aim to ensure every eligible elector has the opportunity to vote in the inaugural 2024 South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament Election."
