The Opportunity
As the Suicide Prevention Project Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of suicide prevention initiatives across the Pilbara.
Reporting to the Culture Care Connect Network Coordinator, you will coordinate and support project activities, community engagement, research, training, capacity-building, monitoring and evaluation activities aligned with the Pilbara Network Suicide Prevention Plan and the Culture Care Connect Model of Care.
This role is based in South Hedland and requires regular travel throughout the Pilbara region to engage with communities, stakeholders and partner organisations.
Working closely with Aboriginal communities, service providers and stakeholders, you will contribute to culturally safe, evidence-based suicide prevention initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing and build local capacity.
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate and support the implementation of suicide prevention initiatives and projects across the Pilbara region.
· Support research, data collection and analysis to inform evidence-based suicide prevention practices.
· Undertake regular travel throughout the Pilbara region to support project implementation, stakeholder engagement, training delivery and community consultation activities.
· Develop and support community and stakeholder capacity-building initiatives.
· Coordinate and facilitate training sessions, workshops and community awareness activities.
· Engage with Aboriginal communities, stakeholders and service providers to understand local needs and support culturally safe approaches.
· Monitor, evaluate and report on program outcomes, using data and stakeholder feedback to support continuous improvement.
· Contribute to the implementation of the Pilbara Network Suicide Prevention Plan.
· Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to strengthen suicide prevention efforts and improve community wellbeing outcomes.
What You'll Bring
· Demonstrated experience in project coordination, project management, community services, mental health, Aboriginal health, social and emotional wellbeing, or a related field.
· Understanding of social and emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention and mental health.
· Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
· Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder engagement skills.
· Current WA Driver's Licence.
· Ability and willingness to undertake regular travel throughout the Pilbara region and other locations within Western Australia as required.
· Certificate IV, Diploma or higher qualification in Community Services, Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, Public Health, Social Work or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Highly Regarded
· Experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) or Aboriginal health services.
· Experience working in regional or remote communities.
· Qualifications or accreditation in Aboriginal Health, Mental Health, Suicide Prevention or Mental Health First Aid.
