Introduction
Australia’s acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is historic and transformational. The Pathway announced on 14 March 2023, will deliver Australia a world-class capability that will see our nation become one of only seven countries that operate nuclear-powered submarines. This game changing capability will enhance Australia’s capacity to deter conflict and support security, peace and economic prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
This significant undertaking presents an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, committed and aspirational leader to lead, develop and shape our People strategy and culture across the Australian Submarine Agency.
Your Role
The Assistant Director General – People is responsible for developing and implementing key People strategies, policy and programs that support delivery of the nuclear-powered submarine program. This will involve leading the strategic workforce planning, culture program, change management, remuneration and people policies, career and talent development programs for staff, management of graduate and early entry programs and workplace health and safety.
This is a key role where you will lead and build a team of qualified and experienced people, including APS, ADF and contractors, to manage these services and advise on Human Resources related matters. You will be required to manage relationships across Government and establish effective relationships with industry and our AUKUS counterparts.
As a member of the senior leadership group, you must be able to promote a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration and agility. You must also be able to effectively manage complex legislative and ethical frameworks to achieve capability outcomes for Defence and the Australian Government.
The ideal candidate should have experience leading teams to deliver a workforce that meets the organisation’s strategic requirements. This will include experience in workforce strategy and planning, people policy and program development and delivery. Experience cultivating a high performing and delivery focused organisational culture is important, as is experiencing using data to inform enterprise workforce decisions.
