Housing Group is seeking motivated and collaborative applicants at the APS5, APS6 and EL1 levels to contribute to nationally significant housing policy, programs and partnerships.

About Housing Group

Housing Group works to improve housing outcomes for all Australians. We shape policies and programs that support more homes being built, make housing more affordable and improve access to safe and secure housing.

Our work covers a wide range of areas, including:

• Helping increase housing supply.
• Supporting home ownership.
• Improving renting outcomes.
• Supporting social and affordable housing.
• Improving housing outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Housing Group works closely with communities, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisations, state and territory governments, industry and other stakeholders to help deliver the Australian Government’s housing agenda.

We have opportunities across two divisions, the Housing Supply, Productivity and Engagement Division (HSPED), and the Housing Access and Delivery Division (HADD). A merit pool will be established to support other roles within Treasury.

We are seeking motivated and collaborative applicants at the APS5, APS6 and EL1 levels to contribute to nationally significant housing policy, programs and partnerships. Successful candidates will have opportunities to work across a range of areas, including:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing policy and partnerships.
• Housing supply and planning reform.

• Research, data and policy analysis.

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including government, community-controlled organisations, housing providers, not-for-profit organisations, advocacy groups, academia, research organisations and the private sector.

APS5 Officer

As an APS5, you will help develop and deliver housing policies and programs. You will undertake research, prepare written materials, work with stakeholders and contribute to projects that support Government priorities.

We are looking for people who can:

• Gather information, identify key issues and help develop practical solutions.

APS6 Officer

As an APS6, you will take responsibility for pieces of work and help lead pieces of work, provide policy and program advice, manage stakeholder relationships and contribute to strategic projects.

We are looking for people who can:

• Work independently and deliver quality outcomes through strategic thinking and problem solving.
• Analyse information and provide clear, evidence-based advice.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with a range of people.
• Exercise sound judgement, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities and risks.
• Show initiative and be willing to take on and learn new things.

EL1 Assistant Director

As an EL1, you will lead projects that contribute to the Government's housing agenda. You will provide leadership within a team, manage complex stakeholder relationships and deliver high-quality advice to senior executives and Government.

We are looking for people who can:

• Lead and support others with the ability to guide teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Think strategically and the ability to translate Government priorities into practical outcomes.
• Provide sound judgement and the ability to provide advice on complex and sensitive issues.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, governments, industry and community partners.
• Bring experience managing projects, risk and competing priorities in a complex environment.
• Develop staff, foster inclusion and build team capability.

Eligibility

This vacancy is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people under the Affirmative Measure – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Provision (Section 31). This is a special measure under subsection 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.

To be eligible, you must:

• Be an Australian citizen.
• Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance (Treasury will arrange and cover the cost of the clearance process).

Prior to being made a formal offer, successful candidates will be required to provide Confirmation of Heritage from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation. Acceptable evidence may include:

• A letter from an incorporated Indigenous organisation confirming you are recognised as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; or
• A Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent form completed by an Indigenous organisation.
