The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber and cyber security agency.
The ASD motto, Reveal their secrets - Protect our own, summarises our roles: we collect foreign intelligence; we conduct offensive cyber operations; and we provide advice and assistance on information and cyber security.

As a senior leader in ASD, you will have an important role leading this change.
Position Description
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking highly motivated, outcomes-focused Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 leaders for multiple roles that provide strategic leadership of signals intelligence operations, collection capabilities, intelligence production activities, and/or technical initiatives that deliver critical intelligence outcomes for the Australian Government.
One of the available roles is Assistant Director-General Access Operations, a position based in Canberra with a required three-year term transfer to Melbourne.
A merit pool will be created from the list of suitable applicants, which may be used to fill other positions in the event one becomes vacant.
As an Assistant Director-General – Signals Intelligence, you will lead complex and high-priority signals intelligence functions, overseeing multidisciplinary teams of intelligence, operational and technical professionals. You will be responsible for driving the collection, analysis and dissemination of foreign signals intelligence, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate and actionable intelligence that informs government decision-making and supports Australia's national security objectives.
These roles require strong leadership, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills to manage large-scale operational activities, develop intelligence capabilities, and foster collaboration across government, defence, security and intelligence partners. You will contribute to the advancement of ASD's signals intelligence mission, balancing operational priorities with long-term capability development in a dynamic and evolving environment.
More broadly, as part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of ASD as the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber, and cyber security agency and will work with colleagues across the Defence portfolio and Government to achieve results.
SES are responsible for managing significant staff and financial resources, leveraging strategic relationships and engaging collaboratively with customers and stakeholders. You will work closely with international partners, and manage an Australia-wide workforce. You will also have the opportunity to enhance current practices in pursuit of greater efficiencies, driving transformation and continuous improvement.
