In an increasingly complex strategic environment, intelligence has become a crucial enabler of the department’s pursuit of Australia’s national interest. These positions deliver cutting-edge intelligence and/or security services expertise to support the department’s delivery of foreign policy advice, operational programs and consular services. Operating across the entire foreign policy portfolio, these positions will provide opportunities for the individual to think creatively, recommend action, coordinate, exercise judgement and drive compliant results for both internal and external stakeholders.
The roles available include:
- intelligence policy, ensuring DFAT provides well-coordinated, enterprise-level advice on intelligence-related Cabinet processes, interdepartmental fora, policy reforms and legislation;
- research and analysis, delivering accurate, timely and targeted intelligence information and advice suited to the requirements of policy and operational decision-makers; or
- security and facilities service delivery, through accreditation as deputy Communications Intelligence Security Officers (COMSOs).
Prior experience working in or with the National Intelligence Community (NIC) is preferred but not essential. We’re looking for driven, agile and resilient professionals with a client-services mindset, demonstrated written and oral communication skills and a passion for contributing to Australia’s national security.
