Tarryn Thomas update: AFL Integrity Unit meeting over 'inappropriate behavior' allegations delayed

Jarred Cross -

North Melbourne's Tarryn Thomas' meeting with the AFL Integrity Unit prompted by fresh allegations of "inappropriate behaviour" has been delayed until early next week.

Thomas was originally expected to appear at AFL offices on Thursday morning following reports of alleged domestic violence claims made against the 23-year-old which surfaced Wednesday.

He will now face the league's Integrity Unit next week with his legal representatives unavailable to attend today.

An investigation into the allegations has been launched.

Thomas was embroiled in a string of off-field incidents last year, including fronting a Melbourne court on charges of threatening to distribute an intimate image, which were later dropped in a downgrade to harassment.

It's understood the latest claims are unrelated to previous allegations made against Thomas, and that the alleged victim approached the AFL directly without police involvement.

"The AFL confirms Tarryn Thomas is under investigation following an allegation of inappropriate behaviour," an AFL spokesperson said, via AAP.

"After serving the North Melbourne Football Club a notice to interview late yesterday, the AFLIU sought to speak to Thomas this morning however Thomas' legal representatives were not available today.

"Thomas will be interviewed by the AFLIU as soon as possible early next week."

In a short statement on Wednesday evening, North Melbourne confirmed their notification to AFL investigations commencing, adding "the club is working through this information and is not in a position to make any further comment."

The latest concerns could threaten to throw Thomas' football career in limbo.

He underwent club-initiated behavioural and education training - on AFL advice, throughout the 2023 season, and was twice stood-down by the club for periods before making his way back into the senior team via their VFL setup.

"Respect of all people is fundamental to our club values," North president Dr Sonja Hood said in February.

The fresh allegations came just days after Kangaroos captain Jy Simpkin spoke positively on Thomas' start to 2024.

"He's working hard. He's in a great mindset at the moment," Simpkin said.
