Cameron cops one match from MRO in sour note to Lions big win at the 'G

Jarred Cross -

Charlie Cameron’s return to form against the Demons on Thursday night has been soured after learning his fate for a dump tackle on Jake Lever from the Match Review Officer on Friday.

The Brisbane veteran kicked three in his side’s statement-making 22-point win over another premiership fancy in Melbourne, helping secure just their second win for the season and making early inroads to overcoming their MCG hoodoo in their first appearance at the ground since last year’s grand final loss.

Cameron could have had a couple more if not for some goal-line defence and an overturned decision via the goal review system - courtesy of Steven May, as Melbourne clawed back at what was presenting as hefty defeat at the final change.

The veteran, however, will miss the Lions’ now crucial contest against an impressive looking Geelong at the Gabba next week after being handed a one-game ban for the tackle on Lever.

The first quarter incident was graded careless conduct, medium impact and high contact by the MRO after pinning the Melbourne defender’s arm in the tackle.

Lever looked to have been left largely unphased by the contact with the turf, and played out the rest of the game.

Cameron kicked his and Brisbane’s last after burning Lever on the outside for an open look at goal with 12 minutes remaining in the contest.
